MegaFon says US sanctions not applicable to connection services

MOSCOW, Apr 13 (PRIME) -- The U.S. sanctions against Russian mobile operator MegaFon do not impact connection services or payments for them, and will not influence the company’s business directly, the operator said on Thursday in a statement.

“The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) license issued after the announcement of inclusion of our company in the sanctions list proved that the restrictions on the part of the U.S. do not apply to any services in the industry of provision of connection and settlements for them,” MegaFon said.

“In essence, it means that the decision of the U.S. regulator has no direct significant impact on our business, our subscribers, and the services provided to them, including roaming.”

MegaFon reiterated that it views blacklisting of the company unjustified and illogical.

“We intend to challenge it, we are actively informing all our partners that the core business of our company is not sanctioned and provide them with all necessary explanations and documents,” the operator said.
